Throwing Shade

Prince has taught me so many lessons

Beyond the music, I was always in awe of his swaggerSwagger

Since his death, a bad ass friend of mine has been posting Prince videos, unknown facts or quotes

This one came just at the right time

“Don’t get on the scale of you ain’t got the weight.
It’s more hard to love than it is to hate.” – Prince (“Escape”)

This lesson came at the right time

In yoga, we end the practice with a prayer to all teachers

Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru devo Maheshwara,
Guru sakshat, param Brahma, tasmai shri guravay namah

The loose translation is that it’s a prayer to the main 3 Hindu gods

Brahma-The creator

Guru Vishnu -The Presever/ Controller

Shiva-The Destroyer

The prayer is acknowledgement to ALL of our teachers-good and bad

As much as we can accept teachers like birth, success, a move to a tropical environment-damn, it’s hard to swallow those of death, failure, loss of a rent-controller apartment

But, they are all lessons we must learn, nonetheless

My teacher says ‘Have you ever noticed the SAME person shows up in your life. Different name, different face-but still that SAME person?  You had better figure out what lesson they are here to teach you or they will keep coming’

Back to PrincePrinceOrange

“Don’t get on the scale of you ain’t got the weight.
It’s more hard to love than it is to hate.” – Prince (“Escape”)

So, back to the practice

Pattabhi Jois said ‘Practice and all is coming’

Meaning, you get on your mat everyday-connect with breath-work hard-‘get’ the weight

So you build up that fire, that Agni, which fuels knowledge

The next time you see it coming

When that SAME person keeps throwing shade

Respond with gratitude for this teacher

You do what Prince says

‘It’s more hard to love than it is to hate.” – Prince
